To celebrate April Fair Housing Month, the ONE Arts Center and the Fair Housing Project of CVOEO invite you to submit art that symbolizes home and inclusive communities. Artists are invited to consider the important ways the Fair Housing Act continues to shape our communities as we move away from housing segregation, or to reflect on their own lived experiences of exclusion from housing based on race, disability, gender, marital or family status, age or receipt of public assistance.
Fair Housing Month celebrates the federal Fair Housing Act which was signed into law on April 11,1968 after a long and difficult political and social struggle. The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, and disability. Vermont has additional protections for age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, receipt of public assistance, and abuse, sexual assault, and stalking. This community art show will be part of a month of educational activities and workshops around Vermont in honor of the event.
Works will be displayed both at the ONE Arts Center and at Burlington City Hall for the duration of the month.
